Term 3 Week 9

The end of term arrived very promptly, and the last couple of weeks for packed full of fun stuff.

We had Mercy day, to celebrate that we are a Mercy school.  The whole school dressed up in blue and brought food for the local food bank.  We also finished our school science rotations on that day.

We were also very excited to see 'Kids can Cook', which is a mobile kitchen and chef who shows the children different healthy foods and how you can prepare them.  Tyler was his Sous Chef, so helped with all the cooking.  They made apple and silverbeet crepes and all the children got to try some.

On the last day of term, we decided to do some science and 'cooking' ourselves.  We made instant pudding and lolly cake.  For the instant pudding we needed to mix the liquid milk with the solid pudding powder.  We stirred it up and saw that it was a liquid.  We wanted to make the mixture turn into a solid so we needed to cool the mix down.  We put strawberry mix into tiny cups and then let them cool.  They turned into solid pretty quickly!  If we tipped our little cups over the solid stayed in the cup.  We then made some more chocolate pudding and put that liquid onto our strawberry pudding solid base.  The colours didn't mix up because the strawberry had already set, so we had chocolate and strawberry pudding in the same cup.

Making lolly cake was fun too.  We had to chop up the lollies, and the children were very good at this!  Then we had to melt the butter.  To make solids turn into liquids we knew that we had to heat them, so the butter went in the microwave for a short while.  We mixed up the biscuit crumbs and the lollies, and we also mixed the melted butter and condensed milk together.  Then we put these two mixtures together and stirred to make lolly cake.  The children carefully rolled the mix into little balls and coated them with coconut.  The cake mixture was pretty soft, we had to cool the mixture down again to make it more hard and solid, so we put them into the fridge for an hour or two.  Our lolly cake turned out to be extremely yummy!
