This week has been very exciting though, we had a couple of science rotations on Tuesday. The children went around in their houses to different science lessons, and next Tuesday they will complete the four rotations. Mr Forde and I taught the children about states of matter. Solids, liquids and gases. We boiled coloured water to watch it turn into steam and then re-cool into another conical flask. We also made liquid turn into solid by making instant milk pudding. Mrs Williams and Mrs Tagamoa-Kaa made tea bag rockets, exploding bags and sherbert, Miss Swney and Mrs Lieshout had the children very excited with coke and mentos reactions and dancing raisins, and Mrs Buxton and Mrs Winders looked at force and friction.
Then yesterday was international Talk like a Pirate day. The kids had so much fun all day! They wore their pirate hats in class and in the playground and it was wonderful to see them playing pirate ships and morning tea and lunch times. We read pirate stories and talked pirate talk all day.
We also had 'Science in a van' come to visit us yesterday. We went into the hall and saw them making mixtures and bubbles. We learned that mixtures are made for different purposes, for example you wouldn't blow bubbles using pancake mix. We also learned that some things mix really well (like food colouring and water) and some need a lot of shaking to mix (like oil and water) and then those materials will separate out again.
Mrs Russell continued the pirate theme today with her art and the kids made handprint pirates and jolly roger bunting.
