Term 1 Week 5

We have had a couple of new children start in Room 2 this week.  One of our children is from Christchurch and has come to stay for a while with us.  We have loved having both Mya and Nicholas in our room.

We have had a very noisy week, with the builders hammering and cutting tiles right outside our room!  Luckily the weather has been pretty good this week and we have gone outside to do our reading and literacy.  We have had a great alphabet hunt, learning about what we can see that starts with each letter of the alphabet, and we have also been learning to work in pairs - taking turns and making sure that each person gets to find something and draw something.

On Wednesday it was a very exciting day.  We had house colour day, where we all dressed up in the colour of our house (some children insisted that their house was white, but we explained that houses at school were just like teams).  It rained in the afternoon so we had our house chants in the hall.  On Thursday it was fine enough to have tug-o-war outside against the other houses.

We also had Constable Paul come and visit us on Wednesday, to talk to us about keeping ourselves safe.  We have learned that it is important to know our full name and our address or phone number in case we get lost, and that it is also really important to know our body parts by their correct names.  That way, if anything happens to us we can be very clear when explaining it to a trusted adult.  We learned that it is okay for someone you trust to touch your body, only if you want them too, or if you are hurt, otherwise it is not okay for someone to touch you.  We all practised saying that our body is our own and we will not touch others unless they want us to.  This week we will be learning different ways that we can say no to people who make us feel uncomfortable, about or bodies, or our feelings.
